Jennifer Walshe is an Irish composer and conceptual artist of multiple virtual identities. Jennifer Walshe was born in Dublin. She studied composition with Kevin Volans in Dublin and graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago, with a doctoral degree in composition in 2002. She is currently Reader in Music at Brunel University, London. Her works have been performed and broadcast all over the world by groups such as Alter Ego, Ensemble Récherche, Ensemble Resonanz, Apartment House, Bozzini Quartet, Ensemble Intégrales, Neue Vocalisten Stuttgart, the Crash Ensemble, ensemble ascolta, Kaleidoscop, Schlagquartett Köln, Champ d'Action, Q-02 and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. She has received commissions from organizations including RTÉ, Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), Sudwest Rundfunk (SWR), Maerzmusik, Ultraschall, Musik der Jahrhundert, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Dresden Semper Oper, Wien Modern, the Project Arts Centre and the National Concert Hall, Ireland, as well as commission awards from the Arts Council of Ireland and the Scottish Arts Council. In 2000 she won the Kranichsteiner Musikpreis at the Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt. During 2004-2005 she lived in Berlin as a guest of the DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm. In 2007 she was awarded a grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, New York. In 2008 she was awarded the Praetorius Music Prize for Composition by the Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft
