Jennifer Hartswick is a singer and Trumpet player from Burlington, Vermont. She is best known for her work with Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, performing with Anastasio's first backing band and the new Trey Anastasio Band (formerly known as 70 Volt Parade). Jennifer also fronts the Jennifer Hartswick Band. Jennifer Hartswick is one of the most refreshing new voices of the twenty first century. A consummate performer, she thrills audiences as a vocalist, trumpeter, composer, lyricist and educator. She is equally at home singing soul, funk, pop and R&B, but her passion without question is jazz. Born in Vermont into a musical family, Jennifer began playing at the age of 4. In her early teens she became infatuated with the sounds of Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum, Clifford Brown and Ella Fitzgerald. After a stint living on the upper west side of Manhattan, she attended the Hartt School of Music where she studied the intricacies of the jazz idiom with Nat Reeves, Steve Davis, Jackie McLean and many other highly prominent jazz artists. At the age of 20 Jennifer was afforded the opportunity to join Trey Anastasio's new band, having already recorded on Story of the Ghost (Phish, 1998) and One Man's Trash (Trey Anastasio, 1998). She embraced the idea with open arms and began touring with him in 2001.
