Jenkins' Other Ear (JOE) is an American alternative rock band that formed in Augusta Georgia, United States in 2009. The band consists of Kyle Schwartz (Guitar/Yidaki/Misc.), Matt Keskula (Guitar), Sam Reid (Keyboard/Synth) and Helen Reid (Vocals). The band formed in 2009 after Kyle Schwartz remarked to Matt Keskula that the Augusta music scene was composed almost entirely of Emo, Nu Metal, Screamo, and Country. They decided that some variety was needed and agreed to form a band with a different sound. The first practice included Matt and Kyle on guitar, Brandon Essik on drums, and Greg Theodosakis on bass, however neither Greg or Brandon had the time or means to stay on permanently. Shortly after, Sam Reid joined on as vocalist. During one of the first practices he also exhibited an incredible talent on keyboard. With the inclusion of his sister Helen as vocalist, he was shifted to keyboards permanently. Musically, JOE has been heavily influenced by nineties grunge bands such as Marcy Playground and Progressive rock bands such as Rush. Elements of folk, blues, Indie, pop-punk, and on occasion, hard rock and metal, also permeate the sound. While they tend to have a softer sound than the majority of Augusta bands, they can certainly grind out a little noise on occasion.
