Jeanette was born on July 30th, 1952 in Santa Ana, CA. Her musical studies began at age seven when she started playing violin in the school orchestra. At age fifteen, Jeanette found herself attracted to the world of percussion, especially the drumset. At this time, she began teaching herself by listening and playing along with records. Jeanette’s formal training began at the age of 18 when she decided to study privately and to make drumming her career. She earned the Associate of Arts degree in music from L.A. Harbor College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in composition and Master of Fine Arts in percussion from California Institute of the Arts. Jeanette has performed in Europe, Canada, and the United States with Big World, the Monterey Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival, Universal Amphitheater and Hollywood Bowl with Maiden Voyage, and Carnegie Hall, Zellerbach, and the Great American Concert Hall with singer/songwriter Cris Williamson. She has also performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Haden, Jimmy Witherspoon and others. Currently Jeanette is composing, performing and recording with the Northern Lights Ensemble, as well as co-leading Loony Booms a performance art percussion ensemble. Jeanette is Director of Percussion at L.A. Harbor College, where she also teaches Jazz history and is a member of the staff at El Camino College in Torrance, CA.
