Jean Tisserand († 1497 ) or Johannes Tisserandus sometimes spelled Jehan Tisserant or Jean Tisserant , or even Jean Tisseran , or Tifferand , formerly Tissarandus and Tirlandus is an observant Franciscan, probably doctor of theology, possibly confessor of King Charles VIII of France or of Queen Anne of Brittany , founder under her protection of a new monastery near Lyon , on the Saône , of strict Observance, preacher. Tisserand also composed an Easter and Christmas tune and is said to have founded the popular canticle. Author of a piece of Devotion in verse kept at the BnF, Le Dicté en françois , this “dictation in françois” was sung at the beginning of Brother Jean Tisserand's sermons. Author also of the hymn O Filii et Filiae in the tradition of Franciscan poetry, of other hymns and of Noëls ( Noëls Très excellents contemplatives, published by Guillaume Guerson in 1495 and 1502, A la Venue de Noël) composed for the Repentant Daughters and a very beautiful greeting for the seven feasts of Notre-Dame sung at the Salut Eglise Saint Innocent de Paris as well as the Office of the five minor brothers martyred in Morocco whose worship had just been authorized in 1481 by Pope Sixtus IV.
