Jean Mignon, not to be confused with the 16th Century French engraver, is the solo project of New York-based musician Johnny Steines, known for his high-energy garage punk and rock 'n' roll sound. Steines, who has been active in bands like Blue Ray, The Calendars, and The Chives, launched Jean Mignon to explore a rawer, more stripped-down musical style. The project debuted with the album "AN/AL" in January 2023, featuring tracks like "Rebel Ryder," which blends high-speed rock and punk elements. In February 2024, Jean Mignon released the follow-up album "DIRTY MEAN FAST," a 14-minute record that continues the project's exploration of blistering feedback and breakneck tempos. The album has been described as uniting fans of Van Halen and Suicide, offering a fresh take on noise rock with influences from early garage rock and 80s hard rock.
