Artist
Jason Steel is a singer and picker of stringed instruments — chiefly guitar, banjo, and lap steel. Originally from Yorkshire, he has lived in London for over twenty years. A former member of folk collective The Owl Service, his work blends Appalachian and ragtime picking with the strange old worlds of traditional folk and the lingering ghosts of 1920s Tin Pan Alley — somewhere between Bert Jansch, John Fahey, and Cliff “Ukulele Ike” Edwards. He has released a series of acclaimed recordings and was invited to record sessions for the BBC at Maida Vale Studios. Currently working on new material, he divides the rest of his time between staring at the moon, spending time with his young son, and listening to Leadbelly’s Last Sessions.
