Artist
Jasmine Love Bomb formed in the late 1980s in Jack Kerouac's birthplace (Lowell, Massachusetts) when future Abunai! member Kris Thompson got together with ex-Californian guitarist Ed Caspers to hash out (so to speak) a post-punk take on psychedelia. When drummer Joel Harrison (actual last name: Simches) signed on, the essential psych formula was complete: during their first-ever rehearsal, they launched into a rocket-fueled version of Pink Floyd's "Astronomy Domine" after realizing that they all knew how to play it already. The four-song tape they put out in 1989 won much praise, including "Tape Of The Year" in The Bob magazine. They appeared on two UK compilations, A Psychedelic Psauna and Fun With Mushrooms, both on Delerium Records (a UK label that had grown out of Freakbeat Magazine). Their posthumous final release was 1991's An Announcement, a 3-song 7" EP with an impressive cardstock sleeve by Independent Project Press. Following the breakup of the band, Harrison and Thompson moved to Boston (and, with later member Brendan Curtis, were subsequently in Nisi Period together), and Caspers pursued a new muse that had led him into painting.
