Jariya: 3 girls, 15 instruments. Jariya is a trio of international female multi-instrumentalists/video artists whose innovative approach to song writing and performing (the three members of Jariya play a total of fifteen instruments on stage) draws comparisons to the likes of Radiohead, Gotan Project and Laurie Anderson. Marika Tjelios (Canada), Andrea Bensmiller (US) and Eve Buigues (France) met in Boston while attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Initially trained as vocalists and bassist, yet well acquainted with guitar, keyboards, drums and programming, they shared a common frustration toward contrived band performances and formulated rock/pop arrangements. Their new multi-media show, the Prejudice of a Certain Personality Type, (titled after Alan Watts’ quintessential lecture “Seeing Through The Net: Wiggly World”) takes their audience on a 90-minute psychedelic journey through powerful visual art and songs. Without losing track of a fundamental commercial appeal, Jariya intermingle organic and electronic instruments, spoken word, French rap, and sophisticated vocal harmonies in an innovative blend of rock/Jazz/electronic.
