Artist
Janice is a self taught vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist originally from Joshua Tree, California who has resided in San Francisco, California since 1995. She lives with her partner in crime Josh Cadwising and their fabulous cat Marzipan. As a teenager, she suffered an rare degenerative muscle disease that characterizes itself in muscle weakness and immobility. She spent much of her time composing music as well as painting and drawing during her 2 year rehabilitation. Her music is composed by recording layers of herself on multiple instruments, and serves as a creative outlet for exploring the unknown. She uses ProTools to compose her pieces using a digital version of tape editing techniques pioneered in the 1940-1960's. In the past few years, she has become increasingly interested in multi-sensory art, specifically the correlation between sound and physical movement as well as bringing inanimate objects or conceptual images to life through sound. Janice devoted the last 5 years to her recording studio, school, and working with The Friendship House Association of American Indians. Currently, she is taking a break from her undergraduate electronic music degree at San Francisco State University in order to start a family. Janice and Josh are expecting their first child in early December 2006. In 2010, Whaley set out to record every song by The Smiths in a year. Each song required up to 30 vocal layers to represent the various instruments in the original. The S
