Jana Vébrová is a young songwriter originally from Varnsdorf, a small town in the northernmost part of The Czech Republic where she grew up living in an old windmill. She made her debut as a live musician in 2004 with only a handful of her own songs. Within a few short years her reputation grew both among the audiences of various local folk music festivals and fellow musicians alike. One such alternative Czech band, Činna, later invited Jana to participate in their live shows. Most noteworthy in her stage appearance is Jana's emotional, almost trance-like delivery of her often absurd lyrics. The sound of an accordion played by Jana herself also plays an important role both in the songwriting process and her live performance which leads to her often being compared to another Czech female songwriter, Radůza. The fact is one can sense different inspirational sources behind their music, Radůza's being more focused on converting such diverse topics as relationships and travel experience into songs while Jana Vébrová mostly uses songwriting to express the emotions and poetry of her inner self. The end of May saw the release of Jana's first official CD release entitled Kykyrý (Cock-a-doodle-doo in Czech) and chances are we are going to hear a lot more about her in the following months.
