James has been writing songs for decades. Most of his early material was only released on home-mastered cassettes produced for and given away to close friends. One of these, "Birthday Girl" has since been remastered digitally and is available on Ampeater Music James' "Paper Valentines" mp3 EP has been available online (only) since 2009. In 2012, James and collaborator/producer Markleford Friedman released James' debut as The James Rocket, "Launch," which is available to be streamed for free and downloaded for cheap on Bandcamp and various other online venues. In 2013, The James Rocket went live: James, with drummer Lon Rozelle, guitarist Vanya Edwards, and bassist Tommy Cooke are performing at Manhattan and Brooklyn venues, and look forward to playing elsewhere in the Northeast in the coming year.
