Artist
James Whetzel's influences are many and varied, smoothly harmonizing American blues, West African palmwine guitar, spoken word poetry, Tuvan throat singing, and Indian tabla beats and sarod. Whetzel's genius, like that of a great chef or perfumer, is in combining the disparate. For instance, he practices Tuvan throat singing with English words to a West African rhythm, and plays palmwine guitar style with sarod and a tabla beat. Moods run the gamut from cheery and boppable to meditative and otherworldly.
