Artist
James Scott Skinner (August 5, 1843 - March 17, 1927) was a Scottish dancing master, violinist and fiddler. He is well-known as a promoter of Scottish music and dance and for his extensive array of compositions (his Harp and Claymore Collection is still in print and widely available), many of which are still performed today. He was also one of the earliest recorded Scottish fiddlers. As he was a native of Banchory, near Aberdeen, a great number of Skinner's papers are held at the University of Aberdeen. A wealth of information on Skinner, his compositions and his life, is available in their digital collections: http://www.abdn.ac.uk/scottskinner/ User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
