There is more than one artist with this name: 1. A folk singer from Scotland 2. A Filipino-Australian singer and actor from the Philippines 3. A singer-songwriter and producer from New Zealand 1. While living in a wood cabin on a farm in his native Fife, Scotland, James began recording the songs which would be the content for his first album release, ‘Like a Buzzard Chased by Crows’. The songs on ‘Buzzard’ reflected Reid's rural surroundings and told tales of local folklore and the people and animals with which he shared the farm. In June 2006 Simon Allen of Barl Fire Recordings, a purely cdr based label in Sheffield, approached James through a Myspace encounter and by November James' album had been released, as the first in a series of larger factory pressings for Barl Fire. Sold through independent record stores including the U.K’s Piccadilly and Norman Records and the U.S.A’s Aquarius Records and Strange Fortune, the album was well received and earned fine reviews from the stores and online magazines, gaining ‘New psych/folk/Americana’ record of the week at Piccadilly and ‘Gem of the Month’ at Strange Fortune. In September 2007 a track from 'Buzzard', 'Kingfisher Blue' and an unreleased track, 'Elder', featured along side many other folk artists on a 'dark folk' compilation, 'John Barleycorn Reborn', released through Woven Wheat Whispers and Cold Spring.
