Jambalaya Brass Band is a New York City based New Orleans 2nd line brass band. They perform with a s few as 5 pieces or as many as 9 pieces. Kickin’ it hard with a flavor straight from the streets of New Orleans, they pay their respects to the unique musical traditions of New Orleans incorporating a special blend of R & B, Funk, Gospel Traditional Jazz, Zydeco, Latin, Hip Hop and Be-Bop. You can hear them on their CD What You Lookin' At?, available from ItsAboutMusic.com. The band was formed in 1998 by saxophonist / flutist / clarinetist / arranger / composer Ric Frank. Since arriving in New York in 1975, Ric has led bands that have played the Blue Note (The Ric Frank Group), The Limelight (New York City Soul), and Le Bar Bat and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (Reverend Easemore and the Congregational Blues Band). As a composer, Ric’s pen encompasses many styles, from the Renaissance—his music for The Twelfth Night as performed by the Family Repertory Company—to numerous jazz, Latin jazz, and children’s songs. In addition to having received two Meet the Composer grants and two ASCAP Plus awards, his arrangement of “Unicamente Tu” is in the permanent collection of The Salsa Museum of New York.
