Jakob Friedrich Kleinknecht (baptised 8 April 1722 in Ulm; died 11 August 1794 in Ansbach) was a German violinist and composer who emerged from the same Ulm musical household as his elder brothers Johann Wolfgang Kleinknecht and Johann Stephan Kleinknecht. He was the son of Johannes Jakob Kleinknecht, a prominent Ulm musician, and represents the generation in which the Kleinknecht family achieved its widest courtly reach beyond Swabia. Early training took place within the family before Jakob Friedrich entered professional court service. Authority biographies identify him as a violinist and composer, active primarily within the Bayreuth court musical establishment, where several members of the Kleinknecht family were employed during the mid-18th century. His career unfolded in close proximity to the Bayreuth Hofkapelle at a moment when the court cultivated an Italianate instrumental style, particularly in chamber and concerto repertory. Following the political and administrative changes of 1769, when the Bayreuth court was transferred to Ansbach, Jakob Friedrich relocated with the musical establishment and remained there for the rest of his life. Ansbach thus became the final locus of his professional activity and the place of his death in 1794.
