Artist
Sugarlicks Records New Zealand - artist: Jah’licious really starts with the founder, Ms Zoey Scott-Kalyan (Blaque Reign) who was born in England in 1981 with Jamiacan and French blood. During her childhood at boarding school Blacque Reign was in school choirs and musicals. She also became an early childhood friend of Prince William after attending primary school and kindergarten with him – a friendship that remains today. In 1993 her family moved to NZ, and in 2001 Blacque Reign went from busking down Queen St in Auckland to being enrolled at MAINZ (music and audio institute of NZ). After many painful life lessons and losses she began to experience her roots and felt a passion for music. During this time she had begun to appreciate the guitar and to write her own material. At MAINZ she met drummer Barry Suamili and they started a reggae band called “Brethren”. After a few personnel changes, the band slowly formed the Jah’Licious line up that we have today. Jah’licious have released their debut single on the Sugarlicks compilation 2017 Pacific Ultrasound entitled “Poor Eyes”. Dominion Post : “On 2017 the absolute standout track is “Poor Eyes” . Bouyed by the undulations of a tight funky reggae rhythm, lead singer Zoey’s slight rasp and sassy Lauryn Hill-like delivery allow this deep r&b tune to flow with gentle power. Superb.” The band’s second single “Jammin to music” goes to radio May 2005. Their debut album entitled “Delayed Behaviour” is due for release early 2006.
