In 2005, an early incarnation of JSL emerged from the dimly lit college basements of the University of Michigan. After much experimentation with styles, instruments, and members, JSL found its niche in unadulterated power-pop and solidified a lineup featuring Jae Stevens (vocals, guitar), Anders Nilsson (lead guitar), Luke Greskowiak (bass), and Tom Roake (drums). Over the last three years JSLs early work with their first release When What If Gets the Best of Us landed them in the Detroit News for Sonic Summer Battle of the Bands, a feature article with rave reviews in Washington's Tri-City Herald, as well as in the 2006 Detroit Auto Show with two featured tracks sponsored by Volkswagen. Since April of 2008, JSL has signed a management deal with Cleveland-based HM Live (HM), an independent DIY concert-promotion and band-management firm. With the help of HM, JSL has worked with famed producerDon Debiase (Driver Side Impact, Beneath the Sky) and engineer Johnny Burke of Studio D Productions to complete a brand new album. The six-track EP is beginning to draw attention and currently is being shopped to independent and major labels across the country. Early believers of the new EP include Scott Austin (former A&R Warner Bros, Maverick, Capitol Records) and Bob Bradley (former Rep for Fearless Records, Victory Records, Purevolume.com).
