A velvet voice, rich as smooth wine... San Jose's Jackie Gage is the Sade of jazz; she possesses a musical grace that channels torch singers of decades past, mixing elements of jazz, soul, and modern R&B into her sound. She grew up surrounded by icons Billie Holiday and Dionne Warwick, and grew fond of singing their lovely, and haunting tunes--those that are beautifully classified as torch songs. The mixture of powerful big bands and intimate combos, odd-meter melodies loved by Burt Bacharach, and smooth solos from live instruments fueled her identity. This modern sound is a testament to her daring perception of what "Jazz" is today. Fresh from her sold out album release at Yoshi's in Oakland, Gage has created a musical identity in her own vein. She recently relocated to NYC, and can be seen visiting California regularly, touring the state yearly from Sacramento to San Diego. Her music has been heard internationally, from KCSM, KCRW and Hawaii's CUH, all the way to Jazz FM in England. As a 2014 Jazz Search West finalist, she has been seen at nationally recognized venues Yoshi’s Oakland, the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, and The Sound Room in Oakland—with notable past performances at the Fillmore Jazz Festival (2015), San Jose Jazz Summer Fest (2013, 2012), and Berkeley Juneteenth (2015, 2014) among many other venues. Among her musical endeavors, Gage founded Fatale, a California music house focused on presenting and promoting female artists. User-contributed text is
