Jack Oβ Fire were a blues-rock combo from Austin, Texas assembled by guitarist and bandleader Tim Kerr, a veteran of several eclectic punk bands including Big Boys, Poison 13 and The Monkeywrench, which also featured members of Mudhoney. Largely active between 1992 and 1995, Jack O' Fire also featured vocalist/mouth harpist Walter Daniels (formerly of Blood Sucking Go-Devils), bassist Dean Gunderson (formerly of Seattle band, Cat Butt) and drummer Josh LaRue (who had played in a number of bands including Rain Like the Sound of Trains, Sevens and The Sorts). Jack Oβ Fire were committed to "the fine art of covering their favorite artists, enhancing raw originals with their own arsenal of harsh and infectious blues, played with an abandoned release of frantic activity, like they were performing some kind of obscure voodoo ritual or black magic from the Louisiana swamps." Tapping the spirit of the original masters of blues (Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, Hound Dog Taylor, Sonny Boy Williamson), rock'n'roll (Chuck Berry, Link Wray), R&B and Soul (Blind Willie McTell, Booker T & the MGs), Jack O' Fire "shouted their prayers wrapped in fire with honesty, sincerity, and fully believing in what they were doing."
