Jörg Iwer (born August 10, 1957 in Essen) is a German conductor, composer and arranger. From 1977 to 1984, he studied in choral conducting, conducting and composition at the Folkwang University of Music in Essen with Reinhard Peters, Wolfgang Hufschmidt, Nicolaus A. Huber and Guido Knüsel, and in 1983 he took a master's course with Kurt Masur. He followed up with the theaters in Pforzheim, Detmold, Trier and Wittenberg, which was followed by the appointment as general music director in 1998. National and international guest performances took him to numerous German orchestras as well as to Milan, Thessaloniki, Paris, Lugano, Minsk, Szczecin, China, Taiwan, USA and Singapore. Jörg Iwer lived as a freelance artist in Berlin and teaches at the Musikhochschule Hanns Eisler. From 2009, he also returned as musical director to the Villingen-Schwenningen Symphony Orchestra, whose artistic direction was from 1991 to 2001. Currently he lives and works mainly in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. In addition to working with classical music, he has played as a conductor and instrumentator both in the field of film music as well as in cross-over projects with groups or individual artists from the fields of pop, jazz and rock.
