Jérôme Combier is a French composer, born 1971 in Boulogne Billancourt. After studying analysis, orchestration and composition with Hacène Larbi, Jérôme Combier entered the Paris Conservatory in 1997 in the classes of Emmanuel Nunes for composition and Michaël Levinas for analysis. Resident at the Fondation Royaumont in 1998, he then effected a stay in Japan. He followed the composition and computer music course of Ircam (2001-2002) and then for two years was active as both composer and conductor in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In residence at the Villa Medici (2005-2006), it was there that he met the visual artiste Raphaël Thierry, who prepared the visual installation for the cycle Vies silencieuses (2004-2006), the CD recording of this work receiving the Grand Prix of the Académie Charles Cros. He was involved in many other collaborations, notably with the video artiste Pierre Nouvel for Noir gris (2006), an installation based on a text of Samuel Beckett presented at the Centre Georges Pompidou; with the librettist Atiq Rahimi for the opera Terre et cendres, commissioned by Lyons Opera (2012).
