Josh Michalec is a hip-hop producer/artist coming from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Michalec's location in the center of the country has greatly impacted his music preferences as music from all corners of the United States makes it's way through the heartland. "I probably got into hip-hop through my cousin. When I was younger I looked up to him and I remember he would always get me CD's that he liked for Christmas and Birthdays. After that I fell in love with the music and started buying albums myself and listening to hip-hop constantly." Around the age 18 Michalec decided to take his love for hip-hop to the next level and begin producing. Starting out with only Fruity Loops, Michalec began to form his own style incorporating pieces from the music that had made such an impact on his life. Producing at this time was basically a way for Michalec to pass time during periods of boredom. After time and practice he began to improve and his style started to take shape. This was when Michalec began getting deeper into the art of producing. "Living in Iowa - or the Midwest in general, is great in an artistic sense. Different regions have their own styles for nearly everything; the differences in the regions make music unique to those areas. The Midwest is able to pick up pieces of these styles as the music travels from East to West and North to South; thats what makes the Midwest great - it allows an individual to basically stay true to themselves and pick apart everything as it travels
