Ivan Jirka ( October 7, 1926 Prague - August 20, 1978 Dobříš ) was a Czech psychiatrist, associate professor of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague , dramaturge Opera National Theater , composer and critic. His father was the poet Milos Jirko. He studied medicine and psychology at Karls University and at the same time devoted himself to music. He was a pupil of Václav Holzkknecht , Karel Janeček and Pavel Bořkovec . In the years 1951 - 1973 was a psychiatrist at the University Hospital Prague 2. He was a music officer for various newspapers ( Presence, Work ), but also the professional music press ( Musical ), which publishes the interesting critical analysis. Since 1972 he has been the Vice-Chairman of the Union of Czech Composers and Concert Artists, Chairman of the Committee for Dramaturgy and Programme of the Composition Section. In 1976 he was a member of the Programme Committee and the Presidium of the Prague Spring Committee. He was also the Chairman of the Gramorevue Editorial Board. In 1974 he was appointed associate professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and since 1976 he has worked as chief dramaturge of the National Theatre.
