Irene Minghini Cattaneo (Lugo, 12 April 1892 - Rimini, 24 March 1944) was an Italian mezzo-soprano. After studying in Milan, she debuted in Savona in 1918 in Il trovatore. Thereafter, she appeared at the Stadttheater in Zürich, at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan and at the Teatro Regio di Parma. Her vocal training was long and arduous, completed mainly on the local stage, although in 1924 she appeared at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa as a convincing Quickly in Falstaff. The following year she performed at the Arena di Verona in La Gioconda. In December 1926 she performend in Lohengrin at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna Ortruda next to Giuseppina Cobelli and Beniamino Gigli, under the direction of Antonio Guarnieri. The resounding success of her work earned her engagements in Il trovatore and Aida, both works performed in 1927 at Teatro Regio in Turin and the Politeama Fiorentino. From there she went to La Scala, debuting in Il trovatore in March 1928 and then at London's Covent Garden in Aida and Boris Godunov. She would where he return to London in the two subsequent seasons singing roles in La Gioconda and Norma . She retired from the stage in 1941 and tragically died during World War II in her Rimini villa due to a bombing.
