Invisible Boy is a music project fronted by Chris Bierden, bassist for Polica and contributor to many Minneapolis- based projects Cuthbertson’s singing can bring a bustling pub to a quiet hush; Townsend is a great storyteller; McKinnon performs with his heart on his sleeve; Glesain alternates between percussionist and comedian while Parsons does his best to keep a straight face amongst all the fun. Their debut album, We're Going to Hang Your Picture High was released independently in November 2008. Recorded by Tasmusic’s Carl Fidler (The Dead Abigails), Hang Your Picture is as much an album as it is a journey. The opening track, If People Could Put Rainbows in Zoos They Would sees Townsend without a penny or a prayer, submitting himself to whoever it is that provides the weather. From there, the listener is transported from the edge of despair (To Fall Away, With My Hands) to hope (The Boy Who Couldn’t Change the World, Mother Daughter) and a celebration of life (Willow Rain). If CDs were records, the listener would find the B-Side to Hang Your Picture to be a less undulating path. Sometimes I Feel Like There Are Two of Me” and Half True are each a humble acknowledgement of duplicity, Hand-Me-Down is a raw monologue from son to father, while Dandelions, A Sparrow in the Kitchen and You, Me, Everyone speak to the human yearning for purpose and community.
