Laced with the best of the Seattle sound, supercharged with modern guitars and a post-Tool intelligence; inarticulate are pretty much the opposite of their name: hybrid rock, able to shake walls with its heaviness then in an instant become eerily gentle. Based in the Melbourne epicentre of a growing grunge resurgence, inarticulate have been incubating in the rehearsal room, sharpening their chops and writing their first generation of songs. Their approach has been tailor made for the stage... big fat choruses, classically catchy riffs, and a singer who means what he’s singing. And it’s all ready to go. This first batch of songs, captured on their debut EP, shows the result of this dynamic approach to song-writing: from the LA Rock snarl of opener Crazy Like, to the Southern Rock riffery of I’m Gone – the EP is a continuous evolution from song to song, hitting its most diverse fork-in-the-road on the stunning Alone; a swampy, whiskey-soaked blues, complete with haunting lap steel courtesy of the legendary Michael Burke. As the chorus slowly echoes out its chilling mantra of ‘we’re going down...’, the sheer depth of inarticulate’s musical palette becomes clear. But it’s the band’s accelerator pedal that makes them most ripe for the stage, and they’re getting itchy feet. The road is calling.
