Formed in Montgomery, Alabama in the summer of 2010, Ideas of the Opposite is a progressive metal band with influences ranging from fusion to experimental/avant-garde death metal to post-rock and shoegaze. Their band name was taken from a recurring phrase in Thomas Pynchon's, Gravity's Rainbow. Released in October, Evolva delves into the band's progressive influences. The first track, "Transmogrification," takes the listener on a dystopian journey through the desperation of modern man, compounded by an array of dissonant harmony and unrelenting drumwork. "Of, Ideas" brings a subtler soundscape, once again reminiscent of contemporary progressive acts like Animals as Leaders and Scale the Summit. "Originis Ascend" returns to a contemporary metal setting, this time exploring more technical drumming with "stop-starty" time signatures and Tosin Abasi-like tap riffing. Ending on a melodic theme from "Of, Ideas," Evol
