I Was a Skywalker are a five piece hardcore punk band from Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. Members include; frontman Matt Earle, Elsa Simms on bass, Glen May on guitar, Derek Ashley on guitar and Kieran O'Connell on drums. The band was created in 2010 when the cousins Derek and Glen decided that their intuitive nature and chemistry could be used for the betterment of the Newfoundland punk scene. They quickly added the three long-time friends to the quintette. After playing with !Attention! among other Eastern Canadian hardcore acts, iWAS have been at the pinnacle of the Newfoundland hardcore scene. Their influences vary from one side of the punk spectrum to the other including the likes of Blink-182, Defiance, ohio!, !Attention!, NOFX, Darggermouth, Shook Ones, Paint it Black, Clocked In and in Elsa's case, System of a Down.
