I Am the Arm was founded in January 2006 under the name of Cyclic Suicides, writing and recording two songs: "We've Got No Time" (a post punk rant at popular culture) and Take This Lump of Sugar Little Girl You Know You Want It (an obscure experimental colaberation with joy rides). This line up consisted of Cyan (Guitar, Vocals, Drum Machine) and Aimee (Bass Synth, Bass). They developed their style as a two piece aiming more towards electronic music until the entrance of a drummer. May 2006 saw the entrance of Twitchy the Ratbag, a raucous punk drummer with jazz influences. This saw the band take shape as an outfit rather than a project. The songs Umbrella Etiquette, Sea of Plastic Culture, Passing Glance of a Stranger and Porceleine and Clay were polished up from the dingy beginnings of drum machines and bedroom rehearsals into fully fledged songs. Rehearsals took place regularly until the first gig at the Tube Club in Boston Arms on the 31st of July 2006, supporting Joy Rides, a band that highly influenced I Am the Arm through to their hiatus in September 2006.
