Hyperfrenia was formed in the spring of 2013 in Peterborough, UK, by James Stretton (born 29th July 1972, in Coalville, Leicester). He has been a musician since the age of 8, starting with learning the cornet and going on to playing internationally with the Leicestershire Schools Symphonic Wind Band, Desford Youth Band, Snibson and Desford Band and individually competing. In 1991, James ended up at the Liverpool School of Performing Arts, completing a 3 year graduate diploma in music. It was there, that he developed an interest in electro acoustic composition, midi, video and studio recording. After college he eventually became a freelance composer, writing library music for film and TV. Being a classically trained composer and having a love for electronic music, he eventually decided to pull together the last 20 years of compositions he had written (but never released), and put together his first album, Alpha Hyper-frenia’s music covers various genres from ambient, trance and dance to classical and house. Mainly being instrumental based, Hyper-frenia has many influences, such as William Orbit, Nik Kershaw, Pink Floyd, Zero 7 and Calvin Harris, just to name a few.
