Huey Dunbar, was born on May 15, 1974. Born in New York City from a Puerto Rican mother and a Jamaican father, Huey grew up all over New York; Harlem, Washington Heights, Queens, The Bronx and even spent a few years of his childhood living in Lares, Puerto Rico. From when he was a baby, beginning to discover the gift of song, his mother motivated him to sing and was instrumental in helping him to develop a profound love for his Puerto Rican roots. She exposed him to many different sounds and he grew up listening to a huge variety of musical genres, including music from the 50's through the 80's and 90's. During his last year in high school, Huey tried his luck and talent at a talent search held by salsa producer Sergio George and club promoter Adam Torres. At the time, Mr. George was well known for helping develop a new urban sound for tropical music lovers, having already produced freestyle and dance artists, such as La India and Marc Anthony. Huey's amazing vocal range and expression impressed Mr. George, who immediately took interest in developing him as an artist. For two years, Huey refined and developed his natural talent, learning how to speak and sing in Spanish and studying the rhythms of salsa, while doing backgrounds on studio recordings and in live performances. He worked with respected Latin artists, Yolandita Monge and Victor Manuelle.
