about

Founded in Riverside, California in 2018, Holographic Catholic is now based in opposite ends of the golden state: San Diego and the Bay Area. With humble origins as a fakebit project, the duo now crafts synthpop songs with a dreamy retro sonic palette including a Nintendo Game Boy drenched in delay and reverb. Not to be mistaken for Gospel musicians, Lei Ng Labrador and Murawski playfully masquerade hyper-religious aesthetics as a means of subversion and digital dissent. With a glamorous facade of black fishnets, razor sharp eyeliner, and iridescent crucifixes, Holographic Catholic does not embody or represent Catholicism, but rather, they are a dazzling abstraction of it – a matrimony of the sacred and the profane. Excommunication is a departure from the innocent and playful themes of Purgatory. Anguished, bittersweet, and electric, Holographic Catholic’s second album is an intimate account of heartbreak, devastating loss, isolation, and the slow return to the warmth of love – all underscored with a heavy dose of nostalgia. “It's kind of like if GLaDOS sang on a Siouxsie track that someone shoved into a Game Boy” — Dan Butler, Techno Mage "Chiptune T-Pain FTW!" — Marty J Milne, :( User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
