Holly May formed in Austria in early 2000, consisting of drummer Sushila Mesquita, bassist Lisa Wawrusch, and joint guitarists / vocalists Katrin Artner and Tanja Frinta. Recorded in Umea in Sweden, the band's first release was the EP "Where are the Brilliant Ballerinas?" in March 2001. Following the release the band toured extensively in Austria. Katrin Artner made the decision to leave the band in summer of 2002. The remaining members went on to record their debut full length in the autumn that year entitled "Time Ticks By and There You Are", before breaking up in 2003.
