Hlwan Moe was a prominent Burmese songwriter, composer, and singer, celebrated for his contributions to the music scene in Myanmar. Born on June 27, 1954, in Rangoon (now Yangon), Burma, he gained popularity through several hit songs, such as "Maiden in My Heart" (ရင်တွင်းမေ), "It's Like This in the Neighborhood" (ရပ်ကွက်ထဲမှာ ဒီလိုပဲ), "Teacher" (ဆရာမ), and "Falling Raindrops" (မိုးစက်တင်လေ). Tragically, Hlwan Moe's life was cut short when he died in a car crash on July 10, 2001. Despite his untimely death, his legacy endured, and fellow Burmese artists paid homage to him in various ways. In 2016, a concert dedicated to Hlwan Moe's classics featured popular Burmese singers like Marazza, Graham, R Zarni, Zaw Paing, Phoe Kar, Nanda Ayeya, Nyan Lin Aung, Phyo Pyae Sone, Aung Htet, and Aung Myint Myat. The following year, Banya Han released an album covering Hlwan Moe's classic songs, ensuring that his music continued to resonate with new audiences. In 2019, the Burmese boy band Project K paid tribute to Hlwan Moe by covering his classic track, "That Yangon Lad is Me" (Yangon Thar Lay Kyan Taw), at Yangon City FM's 18th Annual Music Awards. Hlwan Moe's impact on the Burmese music scene remains significant, and his timeless compositions continue to be cherished by fans and fellow artists alike.
