Artist
Cyrus Shahrad has been recording as Hiatus since 2003, creating sparse, haunting electronica that makes you just want to slow down and absorb the world for a bit. He's now teamed up with singer-songwriter Shura on a new EP Fortune's Fool. BEAT: How would you describe your sound? HIATUS: Shura calls her stuff ‘night folk’, which I like – it hints at her traditional songwriter roots while evoking the more psychedelic elements of her sound. Personally I don’t put much stock in genre names – look at how desperately producers are fleeing the term ‘dubstep’, or how silly the tag ‘future garage’ is going to sound ten years from now – but there’s definitely a melancholic, cinematic side to our stuff that it would be nice to convey in words.
