The Heroin Addicts were a legendary pop-punk band based out of Crofton, MD forming from members of bands such as Code Blue, Lemon Joy, and the Beat-me-ups. The Heroin Addicts quickly gained a die-hard following of junkies with their catchy and infectious tunes and even the band members' names were plays on heroin terminology (Matt Smack, Eric Trackmark, Jason Overdose, and Johnny Heroin). The bass duties in the band are a volitile subject. Patrick Martin of Code Blue was the original bass player, but he doesn't like pop-punk so he quit. Then came Jason Overdose who quickly jumped in and started writing songs (he even co-wrote the most famous Heroin Addicts song, "Woulda Coulda Shoulda.") After Jason's departure, bass duties were filled by Todd Himes, then Dan Bress. The Heroin Addicts recorded one self-released LP and one self-released EP of good ol' three-chord pop-punk. Eric Trackmark says, "If God invented a fourth chord, we probably still wouldn't use it. Fuck him." The Heroin Addicts attempted to get their EP released on Mutant Pop Records, who at the time, was releasing just about anything that was considered pop-punk, but they were rejected when label owner Tim suggested they change their name.
