Artist
Herman Kelly & Life were a short-lived funk musical group who released records on the Miami, Florida based T.K. Disco, Alston, and Electric Cat labels in the late 1970s. Their 1978 song "Dance to the Drummer's Beat" appeared on the seminal movie Wild Style, played by local djs in the first scene of breakdancing on a real-life dancefloor. As such it became an anthem of hip hop culture and old school breakdancing, later appearing in several breakbeat compilations, such as "Ultimate Breaks and Beats". It has been sampled numerous times, mainly by hip hop artists. Due to a typographical error, the title of the song appeared as "Dance to the Drummer Beat" on the original release.
