There were several notable Herbie Nichols Trios: "Herbie Nichols Trio" is the third album by American jazz pianist Herbie Nichols featuring performances recorded and released on the Blue Note label in 1956. Although originally unheralded at the time of release Nichol's Blue Note recordings have gained recognition as highly original and ground-breaking compositions and performances. The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded Nichols' The Complete Blue Note Recordings, released in 1997, a five star rating and stated "The music is virtually unclassifiable, and although largely straight-ahead, sounds unlike anything produced by Herbie Nichols' contemporaries. Essential music". Personnel: Herbie Nichols - piano Teddy Kotick (tracks 6-8 & 10), Al McKibbon (tracks 1-4 & 9) - bass Max Roach - drums "Love, Gloom, Cash, Love" is the final album by American jazz pianist Herbie Nichols featuring performances recorded and released on the Bethlehem label in 1957. The Allmusic review by Brian Beatty awarded the album 4Β½ stars and stated "These performances may be less animated than Nichols' earlier sides as a leader, but that's not to suggest the pianist's writing or playing had become pedestrian or predictable... Nichols' complex melodies and solos shine that much brighter". Personnel: Herbie Nichols - piano George Duvivier - bass (tracks 1-8 & 10) Dannie Richmond - drums (tracks 1-8 & 10) User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; addition
