Artist
There are three performers that go by the name "Heliotrope," one an Early Music ensemble, one an European techno solo artist, and the other a Japanese band. 1.Heliotope is a California-based Early Music ensemble that performs medieval chant, polyphonic choral music, and instrumentals under the leadership of Joyce Todd (later Joyce Todd-McBride). Their first cd, The Romance Of The Rose - Feminine Voices From Medieval France, was released in 1995 and featured songs composed by, for, and about women, particularly songs in the French troubadour tradition of the 11th through 13th centuries. It was followed in 1998 by The Fire and the Rose: Aquitanian Chant & Polyphony, a cd of thirteen 12th-century French songs dedicated to the Virgin Mary. A third album, In Time of Daffodils: Songs of the Trobairitz, was released in 2003. ("Trobairitz" were female troubadours from the Occitan region of southern France.) Heliotrope has had a variable lineup. Performers include Joyce Todd (soprano, percussion, harp), Natalie Cox (harp), Shira Kammen (vielle, rebec, voice, harp), Kit Robberson (vielle), Kim Swatsler (hurdy-gurdy, monochord), David Tayler (oud), Stephanie Prewitt (alto), Danny Johnson (tenor), Temmo Korisheli (tenor), Roy Whelden (vielle), Tom Chandlers (bells, oud)], Ethan James (hurdy-gurdy), Tobias Roberson (percussion). 2.The man behind Heliotrope is M. Selmer. Born 1971 in a small town approx 60 km west of Copenhagen in Denmark. His interest in music started as a young boy
