Hedwig Bilgram was born in Memmingen (Germany). At an early age she had piano lessons with Thilde Kraushaar, one of Schmid-Lindner’s master students. Later on she continued her education at the University of Music in Munich and studied piano under Friedrich Wührer as well as organ with Karl Richter. In 1956 she was awarded 1st prize at the Competition of German Universities and only three years later the 1st prize for organ at the International ARD Music Competition of the Federal Republic of Germany in Munich. For years under the direction of Karl Richter she played Continuo at the Passion, Oratorio and Cantata performances of the Munich Bach Choir and Bach Orchestra. Since 1961 Hedwig Bilgram teaches organ and since 1964 cembalo at the University of Music in Munich. In 1971 during the Albrecht-Duerer-year in the city of Nuremberg Hedwig Bilgram was granted the honour of premièring Harald Genzmer’s organ concert. Her very substantial concert experience, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, with artists like Paul Meisen, Maurice André, Jean-Pierre Rampal, have lead Hedwig Bilgram through many countries in Europe, the USA, Canada, Japan and Russia. Since 1990 Hedwig Bilgram has been a member of the Berlin Haydn Ensemble, which was founded by Hansjörg Schellenberger and consists mostly of members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
