Heavy Vegetable was a short-lived math pop/rock band formed in 1992 by frontman Rob Crow (vocals, guitar) Eléa Tenuta (vocals) Travis Nelson (bass) and Manolo Turner (drums) in Encinitas, California. They were known for pioneering the genre of math pop and simultaneously math rock as a whole. The bands members stayed consistent until their dissolvement in 1995. It would take under a year for Heavy Vegetable to release their first work in 1993 titled, "A Bunch of Stuff" which consisted of a 4 track demo of songs that would eventually get re-released in the future. After releasing a 7" with the band Powerdresser at the the end of 1993, Heavy Vegetable would eventually catch the attention of Headhunter Records, signing them on in 1994 as they would end up releasing "The Amazing Undersea Adventures of Aqua Kitty and Friends" on May 13th of the same year. Going straight back to recording, they would release a split EP with the band Fugbear sometime after even consisting of a cover they did of The Residents' song, "Perfect Love". Heavy Vegetable are known for their satirical, and uplifting lyrics along with their obsession for animals, and outsider music. "Aqua Kitty" would consist of artwork that was taken by Travis Nelson, of his cat, a photo of the band taken by Satoru Yoshioka, and underwater photos by Mark Conlin. The albums recording consisted a little over 11 days worth of time spanning from November 3rd to November 14th of 1993. They would eventually tour and play with
