Head of Cassandra was formed in late 2023 in Warsaw, Poland by Przemek Bielinski with one goal: to play simple, heavy, hard-hitting music—a dirty cocktail of old-school hardcore punk, classic thrash, and Swedish death metal. The original lineup featured Bieliński on bass, Tomasz “Yony” Jońca (ex-Obscure Sphinx) on guitar, and Piotr “Jagger” Leszczyński (ex-Zwłoki) on drums. After a year of rehearsals, lineup shifts, and the hunt for a vocalist, Bielinski moved to guitar and brought in Wojtek Śmierzyński (ex-NAO) on bass. Soon after, Rafał “Foster” Hewanicki (SNAUM) joined as frontman. In this formation, the band recorded its debut EP Duga Rmar and made its live debut opening for Polish stoner-doom heavyweights Dopelord. Shortly after, Yony departed over artistic differences, prompting the band to continue as a four-piece and rework material for a single-guitar attack. Each member brings a wildly different background: Jagger is a veteran punk drummer who also performs in a Nirvana tribute with a symphonic orchestra; Wojtek comes from the metalcore/djent scene; Foster is into strange 1970s cinematic jazz; and Bielinski draws inspiration from minimal noise-doom to avant-garde grindcore. While the first EP carried strong post-metal/doom undertones from Yony’s influence, Head of Cassandra’s new direction leans into faster, more aggressive metal—without sacrificing their trademark downtuned, distorted filth.
