Harlequin Baby is a Santa Cruz-based band, first formed in fall of 2008 by a group of close friends and students at UC Santa Cruz. An "electrotrashed" group with a sense of humor, the band members go by Hana Vomit (Lead Vocals/Keyboard), Bubbles (Bass/Beats), Crystal Mess (Vocals/Samples) and Duckie (Keyboard/Guitar). With themed shows and inventive attire, Harlequin Baby plays out their many different personas during their live shows. For instance, Hana Vomit and Crystal Mess's long-ongoing feud over who is the true lead singer of HB. Though they have playful exteriors, their music often explores serious themes such as the rejection of mainstream media, dysfunctional families and self-destruction. Their focus is on queer and female identities and pushing them to the front of the stage.
