The Hansi Biebl Band was a German blues rock and rock band. They were founded in East Berlin in 1978, disbanded in 1982 and were active again in 1996 with a new line-up. After the release of their first LP, the band was also able to appear on GDR television, including programmes such as Jugendklub and Rund. The GDR record label Amiga released two LPs. The blues guitarist and singer Johannes Biebl founded the Hansi Biebl Blues Band in 1974, which was banned from performing in 1975 after Eberhard Klunker and Olaf Wegner had fled to the Federal Republic of Germany. Biebl then played in the Veronika Fischer Band and Vier PS. In 1978 he founded the Hansi Biebl Band and continued the tradition of the blues band era, whereby jazz rock and folk influences clearly shaped the sound of the band. Already after one year of existence the first LP was released. While the compositions on the record came from Biebl, Thomas Schmitt from MTS provided most of the lyrics. Further founding members of the Hansi Biebl Band were Carlos Shuffat (percussion), Peter Krause (drums), Stefan Schirrmacher (guitar) and Willi Becker (bass). Michael Kaszubowski replaced Becker and left the band together with Krause in 1980. Christian Liebig (bass), formerly with Freygang, joined the band together with Herbert Junck.
