Hallraker was a hardcore band more or less born at UMASS in Amherst, Massachusetts during the Spring of 1996. Chris Bevilaqua, and Jim Belisle grew up together in North Andover, MA and were both students at UMASS. With Brian Murray, a transplant from Orange County, CA and bassist from their old band, Canon, they got together with Western Mass. local and fellow UMASS student, Jim Pion and thus bore hallraker. Brian had to split after a couple of months and only a few shows, but helped plant the seeds and wrote some great songs. Jim Pion called on Jim Shea (a former bandmate from Western Mass forgetables Unbound) to take over on bass. Now, in the Summer of '96, the core of hallraker was formed. Hallraker brought in elements of skate rock, 80's style punk and hard core, with influences ranging from the Bad Brains, to Led Zepplin, Wean, The Police, Dag Nasty, Black Flag, and a million different points in between. That Fall, hallraker (with the brief addition of Paul Carlton, also from Canon, on second guitar) recorded the Sessions 7" for Ellington records. They played seeming countless dorm shows and played in and around the Pioneer Valley pretty heavily. Next came the recording of the Sike records CD release, The Methods of... This album was produced and recorded by Steven Wardlaw, guitarist for punk rock heroes, The Marshes (for whom Colin Sears of Dag Nasty played drums...
