Hadass Pal-Yarden is an Israeli Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) singer and a doctorate student of Ethnomusicology. In 2002, she received her Master's Degree from the Music Department of Bar-Ilan University, Israel, for research on the subject of Contemporary Performances of Ladino songs' Corpus in Jerusalem. In that year, she also started doctoral studies at the Ethnomusicology Section of Istanbul Technical University's Advanced Music Studies (MIAM) program. She has spent several years in Turkey studying folklore and classical Turkish music. Her "magnum opus" is the CD Yahudice, released in 2003 by the renowned Turkish Kalan label. "Yahudice" is Turkish for "the Jewish language" and refers to Ladino, the language that the Jews expelled from Spain in 1492 and settled in the Ottoman Empire kept speaking during many centuries into the current times. Ladino is medieval Spanish that has absorbed words of many other languages including Hebrew, Turkish, Arabic, French and Italian. Some of the songs on the CD are entirely in Ladino, others contain parts that are sung in Turkish, Greek, or Hebrew reflecting the multicultural Ottoman societies of the past. The large score of musicians who have collaborated on the CD includes: Yurdal Tokcan, Göksel Baktagir, Yinon Muallem, Buzuki Orhan Osman, and Muammer Ketencoğlu.
