Artist
HALLCA (stylised in all caps) is a Japanese singer-songwriter and performer blending city pop, synthpop, and contemporary R&B. She first rose to prominence as the founding member and leader of Especia, an idol group celebrated for its vaporwave-inspired aesthetic and luxurious fusion of funk, disco, and electronic pop. Following Especia’s disbandment in 2017, HALLCA launched her solo career with Aperitif e.p. (2018), marking a smooth transition from group idol pop to a sophisticated, self-authored style. She followed with the full-length VILLA (2019), which refined her blend of sleek city pop and atmospheric R&B, and continued to expand her sound on PARADISE GATE (2021), Seaside Bar (2022), and her latest album WAVE (2024). Her music bridges retro nostalgia and modern polish, channeling the warmth of 1980s city pop through glossy production and understated emotion. Writing and co-producing much of her own material, HALLCA collaborates with producers and musicians across Japan’s independent electronic and pop scenes, crafting songs that balance sensual atmosphere with introspective calm. With her refined sense of melody and mirror-lit aesthetic, HALLCA stands as one of the defining voices of Japan’s contemporary city pop revival — reimagining vintage elegance through a distinctly modern lens.
