Artist
90's emo/punk/indie group from the L.A. area which had several incarnations, primarily as a trio. The group started as an experimental 4-track cassette project named "Jim McCray" after the group's founder- or rather, after the pseudonym he used in the metallic hardcore band SHLUMPF. Jim released several cassettes under this moniker through Riot Nrrrd Records, Spiffy Records, and his own imprint, Flavored With Meat. Initially the songs were completely free of stylistic restraint and covered many different veins of rock and pop sounds. When the initial band lineup of Jim, Nathen Maxwell (Flogging Molly), and Kurt Barlage (the pacific) was formed, their stylistic leaning was much more towards a powerepop/indie sound (largely as a break from the intensity of Jim's other group, Shlumpf). Eventually Nathen was replaced by Mike Peralta (The Rolling Blackouts) and the drums were taken over by Scott Souza. Thus died the supergroup that could have been. Great songs, though sometimes long, and not always the best recordings.
